Clinical Interests: All areas of general nephrology, including chronic kidney diseases, nephrolithiasis, refractory hypertension and electrolyte disorders.

Research Interests: Using translational approaches to define the contributions of aberrant mineral metabolism to the comorbidities found in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).  I am currently working on both basic science and clinical studies within this area.  My basic science work utilizes genetic manipulations of mouse models to investigate the contributions of a novel phosphaturic hormone, fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), to the progression of mineral metabolism abnormalities in CKD.  For my clinical studies, I am currently interested in defining the non-classical effects of vitamin D therapy on monocyte function and the impact of vitamin D deficiency on the inflammatory phenotype found in patients with advanced CKD.
