About Us

Faculty and fellows: The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension has 10 clinical faculty (6 full-time clinicians and 4 physician-scientists), 4 Ph.D. faculty investigators and 7 nephrology fellows.
Collaborations: We are integrated into the Kidney Institute, a cross-departmental research institute dedicated to kidney research that includes a total of 30 faculty-level investigators and is housed in 23,000 square feet of contiguous research space.
Our clinicians provide care at the University of Kansas Hospital for patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases including those needing dialysis and transplantation, and also at two outpatient dialysis units. We are also closely affiliated with the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center which our fellows rotate through for part of their training.
Research: Our division has a rich tradition of accomplishment in research and in leadership of the academic nephrology community. The major areas of research are:
- polycystic kidney disease
- glomerular development and disease
- mineral metabolism
- transport physiology
- epidemiology of kidney diseases
