Research Overview

The research activities of the Liver Center include basic, translational and clinical investigations into the mechanism of liver function, the cellular mechanisms of liver diseases, development of novel therapeutic approaches for liver patients, and better understanding of how to reduce the burden of liver disease in the population.

The combination of a large and busy Liver Transplant program, an active clinical Hepatology section, and a large number of top NIH funded principal investigators in the Departments of Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Physiology create an environment where the research themes easily cross the boundaries of basic clinical and translational research.

These are all supported by the presence of state-of-the-art core facilities located in the modern Hemenway Life Sciences Innovation Center and strong ties to the world class drug discovery program at The University of Kansas in nearby Lawrence, Kansas.
