Stipends 2016-2017*

  • Categorical residents receive a resident educational fund each year
  • Access to digital MKSAP question bank
  • Dykes Library access to electronic journals without subscription
  • Educational stipend for categorical residents for purchase of books, test fees (i.e. Step 3, ABIM boards): PGY1 -  $300 (categorical interns); PGY2 - $300; PGY3 - $600 plus additional funding available for extra research expenses (i.e. to attend a conference that you are presenting a poster).
  • Prelim residents (IM prelim interns, Radiology, Radiation-onc, Dermatology, Ophthalmology) through their first year as an internal medicine intern, they receive $300 as an educational stipend. Anesthesiology and Neurology interns go through their departments for any educational stipend they might receive.
  • Medical Knowledge Self Assessment Program (MKSAP) Print Version and Digital version purchased for all categorical residents during their intern year
  • Free access to Uptodate

At work

  • Red Zone Parking Zone pass paid for by the department
  • Two sets of scrubs and white coats provided
  • UPTODATE access throughout the hospital
  • Alphanumeric pagers
  • Meal allocations at KU: Resident meal cards for 16-hour calls and for night float
  • Meal allocations at VA: 24-hour access to food if on call (snacks, frozen meals, juices, etc)
  • 24-hour access to resident lounge with large screen TV, computers, DVD player and snacks


  • Membership dues to the ACP (American College of Physicians) paid annually
  • One week for locum tenens or moonlighting with Program Director approval per year

Off the clock

  • Housestaff Appreciation Fund: various activities like happy hours, Worlds of Fun, Royals games, basketball watch parties, haunted houses paid for by the department
  • Student pricing for KU basketball and football tickets (also able to buy football tickets for spouse)
