Schedule

Fellows spend an average of three months rotating through the Kansas City VA Medical Center and three months at Research Medical Center. The rest of clinical training is through research electives and the inpatient consultative service at KU Medical Center.

Through both years of training, each fellow will maintain a half-day per week continuity clinic with a faculty supervisor at the University of Kansas Hospital. This provides opportunities to see outpatient ambulatory infectious diseases consults, OPAT and patients with HIV. Fellows are expected to continuously follow a minimum of 20 HIV patients in this clinic. Fellows also learn to work with the health-care team, including nurses, pharmacists and social service case managers. At the KCVA, the fellows attend two additional HIV clinics each week with additional experiences with OPAT.
