Dr. Taylor, Professor of Medicine, was appointed Program Director July 1, 1999. At that time the Hematology and Oncology programs were also officially combined into one Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program.
Dr. Taylor has been a member of the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center since July 1980. She is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hospice and palliative medicine. She has extensive expertise in end-of-life care. She also has an extensive background in research with phase I, II and III clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute as well as in the pharmaceutical arena. She has served on the FDA Oncology Drug Advisory Committee. Her clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors and breast cancer.
Dr. Taylor has received numerous awards for teaching and compassionate patient care, which include Student Voice Outstanding Teacher Award 1994-1995; Mother Theresa Award for Outstanding Patient Care 1989; VA Employee of the Year 1996; the Barb Johnson Education Award from the KC Regional Home Care Association in 2002; named as Top Doctor at the University of Kansas Hospital in 2006; and won the Rainbow Award in 2013 for her "exceptional student mentoring".
