Suppression of aortitis through SOCS-1 pathways mediated through mast cells
Major Goals: Aim #1: Test the hypothesis that mast cell degranulation inhibit inhibits both histologic and cytokine signatures of vasculitis in the CAWS model. Aim #2: Determine the effects mast cell deficiency on the development of vasculitis in the CAWS model.

Defining the role of mast cells and SOCS-1 in aortitis
Major Goals: Preliminary data from our group has shown that mast cells inhibit LPS induced aortic IL-6 production. The goal of this project is to clarify the mechanisms through which mast cells mediate aortic inflammation.

Relapse rate with long term maintenance therapy in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's)
Major Goal: Determine the if long term maintenance therapy for greater than two years is associated with fewer relapses and an acceptable safety profile compared to shorter maintenance regiments in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's).
