Background

Ryan Spaulding is the Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement at the Univerisity of Kansas Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Spaulding establishes and implements the Center's clinical, educational and technological priorities for the provision of telemedicine service and health information technology (HIT) initiatives in Kansas communities. He has authored and co-authored several published articles and book chapters on the use of health information technologies in the delivery of health care to underserved areas. Dr. Spaulding currently is Principal Investigator or Co-investigator on several federal NIH and HRSA grants for providing and researching various telemedicine services in Kansas. His latest HRSA grant, received in August 2010, is for the establishment of the Heartland Telehealth Resource Center with partners from the University of Missouri and University of Oklahoma telehealth programs. He serves as an Advisory Board member for the KUMC Center for Health Informatics and is currently a member of the Data Monitoring and Oversight Committee of a large tele-ophthalmology study coordinated by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Spaulding received his PhD from the University of Kansas, and previously earned BS and MA degrees from Central Michigan University. He is a member of the American Telemedicine Association and the National Communication Association.
