Gene Meyer retired in 2016 as President & Chief Executive Officer of Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH), a post that he held since 1997. He previously served as Senior Executive Officer for Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City and Chief Executive Officer of Spelman Health System in Smithville.

He has been an active contributor to many professional, civic and community organizations, serving as an ambassador for LMH in a variety of leadership roles, including for the Lawrence Noon Rotary Club, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, University of Kansas Chancellor Search Committee and Lawrence Community Health Improvement Partnership. For his leadership in community health care, Gene has achieved the following recognitions:
• 2015 Kansas Hospital Association Charles S. Billings Award for distinguished service and outstanding contributions to the field of health care in Kansas.
-2013 Lawrence Kiwanis Club Substantial Citizen Award.
-2011 Lawrence Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame inductee.
-2011 recipient of the American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion Award.
-2002 Baker University Lawrence Business Person of the Year Award.
-He is a past board chairman of the Kansas Hospital Association and the Kansas Award for Excellence Foundation.
-Gene currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Medical Mutual Insurance Company (KaMMCO) and Commerce Bank, and on the Baker University Board of Trustees and the University of Kansas Hall Center for the Humanities Advisory Board.
