Medical/Legal Partnership

Medical/Law Partnership

By partnering with the University of Kansas School of Law, the Department of Family Medicine now offers free legal services to patients through a Medical-Legal Partnership.

When a physician, resident, student, nurse, or social worker identifies a patient with a potential legal issue, that provider can refer the patient to the legal team. A member of the legal team then contacts the patient to discuss the legal issue. In 2011, the Department of Family Medicine MLP addressed 130 patient legal issues. The program hopes to serve even more patients in 2013. By partnering with the University of Kansas School of Law, the Department of Family Medicine offers free legal services to patients through a Medical-Legal Partnership.
