Sports Medicine Clinic

The University of Kansas Health System is the official healthcare provider of The Kansas City Chiefs, The Kansas City Royals, Kansas Speedway and Sprint Center. The KU Family Medicine Department offers a Sports Medicine Clinic, available to all providers as a referral asset.

We evaluate:


1. Sports-related medical conditions to include:

  • Exercise-induced asthma/asthma control in athletes
  • Gastrointestinal ailments e.g. runner's diarrhea
  • Concussion management and return-to-play guidelines
  • Skin conditions and play/return-to-play evaluation
  • The diabetic athlete
  • Exercise prescriptions
  • Athletic participation for cardiac problems
  • Consultation for exercise guidelines in pregnancy
  • Overtraining syndrome
  • Running medicine/injuries
  • Menstrual irregularities due to sport

2. Sports-related orthopedic and other musculoskeletal conditions including:

  • Joint Pain (Shoulder, Hip, Knee, Wrist, Ankle, Toe, Elbow, Fingers)
  • Sprains/Strains
  • Shin Splints
  • Plantar fasciitis/Heel spurs
  • Trigger finger
  • Ankle Sprains
  • Knee Sprains/Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Tennis Elbow/Golfers Elbow
  • Shoulder Separation/dislocation
  • Rotator Cuff injury
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Ganglion Cyst
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Knee swelling/Popliteal (Baker's) cyst
