Call for applications for academic promotion and/or award of tenure.

May 1, 2017

Deadline for Registration and completion of the registration form is  6:00 pm, May 1, 2017.

July 2017

Annual Planning Retreat for SOM APT Committee. (Kansas City and Wichita committee members).

August 1, 2017

Deadline for Department Promotion and Tenure Committees to meet. Have letter to Department Chair soon after and submit both letters to APT@kumc.edu before September 1, 2017.

September 1, 2017 

Deadline for ALL materials to be uploaded to individual SharePoint folders. Access to SharePoint will be removed at 6:00 pm on September 1, 2017.

Deadline for submission of the Department Chair Letter and Department APT Committee Letter for all applicants.

December 2017

SOM Campus APT Committees application reviews are completed. 

January 2018

Joint SOM APT Committee finalize the recommendations; results are forwarded to the Executive Dean.

January 2018

Executive Dean reviews APT Committee's recommendations and finalizes the recommendations for the SOM.

February 2018

Executive Dean's recommendations are forwarded to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Denial Letters: Individual faculty members, who have been unsuccessful at the School level will be informed, in writing from the Executive Dean (with a copy to Academic Affairs) and distributed by the department Chair, that his/her request for promotion and/or tenure has been denied and that he/she has the right to appeal the decision. 

February 2018

Appeal Deadline: two weeks after notification by 5:00pm. Faculty members may file a procedural appeal with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Appeal procedure instructions are in the KUMC Handbook for Faculty, pages 95-98 (April 27, 2016 revision).

As soon as possible after appeal deadline.

Appeal Hearings are held. 

February - March 2018

Vice Chancellor submits promotion recommendations to the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC).  Recommendations are then forwarded to the Chancellor for final approval.

March - April 2018

The Chancellor finalizes the recommendations and communicates the decisions to the EVC. The EVC notifies individual faculty members in writing, with a copy to the applicant's Chair. Promotion and/or tenure will become effective July 1, 2018.

The Chancellor forwards the approved list of promoted/tenured faculty members to the Board of Regents and sends the official letter of congratulations to the successful applicants.
