March 1, 2016

Call for applications for academic promotion and/or award of tenure.

May 2, 2016

Deadline for Registration. Applicants must complete and submit campus specific Registration Form. Access to the Registration Forms will be denied at 5:00 pm, CDT, May 2, 2016.

July 2016

Annual planning retreat for SOM Appointments, Promotion and Tenure Committee. (Kansas City and Wichita committee members).

August 1, 2016

Deadline for Department Promotion and Tenure Committees to meet. Have letter to Chair soon after and submit both letters to APT@kumc.edu before Sept. 1.

September 1, 2016 

Deadline for completed applications to be uploaded to SharePoint. Access to your SharePoint will be removed at 5:00 pm on September 1, 2016.

By early December 2016

SOM Campus APT Committees application reviews are completed. 

January 2017 (date TBD)

Joint SOM APT Committee finalize the recommendations; results are forwarded to the Executive Dean.

January 2017 (date TBD)

Executive Dean reviews APT Committee's recommendations and finalizes the recommendations for the SOM.

February 2017

Executive Dean's recommendations are forwarded to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Denial Letters: Individual faculty members, who have been unsuccessful at the School level will be informed, in writing from the Executive Dean (with a copy to Academic Affairs) and distributed by the department Chair, that his/her request for promotion and/or tenure has been denied and that he/she has the right to appeal the decision. The appeal must be filed by the faculty member within two weeks of notification.

February 2017 (two weeks after notification)

Appeal Deadline: two weeks after notification by 5:00pm. Faculty members may file a procedural appeal with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. (See Handbook for Faculty, page 88.) 

As soon as possible after appeal deadline.

Appeal Hearings are held. 

February 2017

Executive Vice Chancellor forwards recommendations for Promotion and/or Tenure to the Chancellor for final approval.

March or April 2017

The Chancellor either approves or denies the individual recommendations and communicates decisions to the EVC. The EVC notifies individual faculty members, in writing with a copy to the respective department Chair (and Dean on Wichita campus, when applicable). Promotion and/or tenure will become effective July 1, 2017.

The Chancellor then forwards the approved list of faculty members who have been promoted and/or awarded tenure to the Board of Regents and sends the official letter of congratulations to the successful applicants.
