Radiology Research

The Department of Radiology is committed to supporting the tradition of research excellence at the University of Kansas Medical Center and University of Kansas Hospital by actively cultivating clinical research studies and research education. In addition to conducting our own research, we also offer ancillary clinical research support, including administrative, technologist, special read, and electronic image transfer services. Meet the team:

Carissa Walter, MPH, Research Manager joined the Radiology Department at The University of Kansas Medical Center in October 2015. She assists in the development and management of all departmental research projects. She has an undergraduate degree in Community Health from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She was a Peace Corps volunteer in Turkmenistan and taught English in South Korea before completing her Master's in Public Health from The George Washington University in Washington D.C.

Angela Barton, MS, NMTCB(CNMT), ARRT(CT), Research Coordinator joined the Radiology Department at The University of Kansas Medical Center in April 2013. She received a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from Sterling College in Sterling, KS then trained in Nuclear Medicine Technology at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS and completed her boards in 1983. She received her M.S.from the University of Kansas in 2008. Angie assists in the administration of clinical research studies, including data collection, documentation, image processing, electronic image uploading, as well as scanning patients using experimental radiopharmaceuticals.

Rosanne Hoover, NMTCB (CNMT), ARRT(R)(CT), ASCP(N), Research Coordinator joined the Radiology Department at The University of Kansas Medical Center in November 2014. She assists in the administration of clinical research studies, including data collection, documentation, image processing, electronic image uploading, as well as scanning patients using experimental radiopharmaceuticals. Rose is a registered technologist in Radiography, Computed Tomography (CT), and Nuclear Medicine, and has over 30 years of experience as a technologist.

Angie and Rose initially worked together in Nuclear Medicine at KUMC in 1985. Together, they perform PET scans for research studies that utilize investigational radiopharmaceuticals. They also coordinate the deidentification and digital submission of clinically-acquired imaging on patients in clinical trials across the institution.

Sonia McCoy, MS, Research Coordinator, joined the Radiology Department at the University of Kansas Medical Center in June2017. She helps administer departmental research activities. Sonia received her Bachelor's of Arts degree from DePauw University and completed her Master's of Science at Purdue University in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. She has over seven years of experience working in the regulated laboratory environment and most recently spent time working for a local Clinical Contract Research Organization.
