Center for Physical Activity and Weight Management

The Center for Physical Activity and Weight Management has a mission of research, education, and service and has facilities at The University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Kansas Lawrence. The main focus is the translation of research into clinical and community programs to promote physical activity and nutrition to diminish obesity and comorbid diseases. The Center develops programs for individuals, families and organizations and for children, adults and individuals with special needs. The Center focuses on behavioral interventions that influence energy balance to prevent weight gain or to reduce weight and maintain weight loss.  The Weight Control Research Project or WCRP is an ongoing clinical research project initiated in 1986 and provides stat-of-the-art weight management for adults. Primary funding for the Center is through The National Institutes of Health with significant funding through industry and foundations.
