Center for Health Behavior Neuroscience

In a society where food is plentiful and exercise is optional, our choices have led to skyrocketing obesity rates and health-care costs. The Center for Health Behavior Neuroscience was formed to support and unify research at the University of Kansas Medical Center and throughout the Greater Kansas City Area that is focused on the brain's role in obesity, addiction, and other health behaviors.

Through functional neuroimaging and other technologies, our investigators have identified brain regions that respond differently
to visual food cues in obese and healthy weight individuals.

Biology plays a critical role in
determining poor health choices at
the individual level. Research is now aimed at understanding the biological roots of this resistance to healthy decision-making.

CHBN is leading the way in understanding brain contributions
to various health behaviors through multidisciplinary teams formed across Kansas and Missouri. This effort has led to significant NIH funding.
