Seating Clinic

When physical growth, development, socialization, language and play are not developing appropriately, causing mobility limitations, a team evaluation may be needed to determine the possibility of movement options, as well as to address community resource needs.

Seating clinic provides mobility assessment and treatment with a multidisciplinary approach. The clinic provides a comprehensive evaluation for anyone under age 22 who are in need of assessment and technological assistance with movement (e.g., a wheelchair). Information and resources to help with mobility are important for early intervention, school, transitioning to adult services, work and home programming.

* Kansas Medicaid requires all children/youth on their program to be seen in an approved seating clinic prior to payment for wheelchairs.

Assessments, recommendations and referrals are made in the following areas:

  • Positioning: bone, muscle problems
  • Seating arrangement for optimal mobilization
  • Community resources

Members of the seating clinical team are:

  • Anne Stanton, clinic coordinator, MSN, RN, pediatric clinical nurse specialist
  • Vicki Miller, LSCSW, social sorker
  • Susan Cannon, PT, MS, physical therapist
  • Trina Schulz, OT, BS, occupational therapist
  • On-call orthotics/prosthetics
