Behavior Supports for Toddler and Preschool Age Children

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a specific therapy provided through our behavior support clinic for young children. PCIT is an empirical parent training model that uses both play therapy and behavioral techniques to improve the relationship between the parent and the child to help parents more effectively manage behaviors. PCIT helps parents identify effective ways to prevent disruptive behaviors, increase positive behaviors, and decrease problem behaviors such as noncompliance, tantrums, and aggression.

PCIT:

  • Promotes positive parent-child interactions
  • Teaches parents skills to prevent and manage challenging behaviors
  • Decreases disruptive behaviors and the stress related to parenting
  • Includes 8-12 visits that occur approximately every other week
  • Uses a coaching model that allows specific feedback while practicing skills with your child
  • Evaluates progress based on data
