Within the KUMC community, the repository works with specific groups to increase the patient population and variation of samples within the bank. For sample collection projects outside of KUMC sites please see our Collaborations page.
As a member of the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN), the repository launched the Early Detection Screening Project. In partnership with the Department of Breast Imaging and Department of Radiology at the KU Cancer Center Westwood campus the project began in April 2013. This groundbreaking project encourages healthy, cancer-free women receiving a screening mammogram to donate 3-4 tablespoons of blood annually. Currently >3,000 women are participating in the project. Women interested in the project may call toll free 855-211-1475 to speak with research member about the project or email BRCF@kumc.edu. Patients may also call 913-588-1227 to schedule a mammogram.
The repository currently works with our valued partners in the Heme/BMT groups to collect active disease specimens in hematological cancer patients and healthy donors. Establishing a rich source of well annotated bone marrow aspirate and blood samples from patients with leukemia and lymphoma cultivates an innovative environment for hematological cancer research.
Dr. Larry Carver currently maintains the brain bank to support psychiatric translational research in the Kansas City area. The repository works with Dr. Carver and his team to house samples for the bank. Please contact Dr. Carver at 913-588-6493 if interested in obtaining brain samples.
