Clinical and Professional Special Interests
Although involved in all areas, Dr. Benson has a particular interest in anesthesia for plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery and pediatrics. He has also written articles and spoken nationally regarding the anesthetic management of the Jehovah's Witness patient. Dr. Benson has served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has been an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, serving on the Committee on Economics, three reference committees, and has chaired the Committee on Transfusion Medicine. He has also served as the delegate for the state of Kansas to the ASA House of Delegates and is past-president of the Kansas Society of Anesthesiologists, the Kansas City Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Academy of Anesthesiology. Dr. Benson has served as the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and currently serves as the President of the University of Kansas Physicians.

Pharmacodynamics of intravenous anesthetic agents and blood conservation techniques.
