Susan Pingleton, MDDr. Susan K. Pingleton became Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education in 2011. She is the Joy McCann Professor of Women in Medicine and Science and the Director of Quality and Professional Development, Continuing Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

She has served in multiple senior administrative positions at KUMC, including Chair of Internal Medicine.  In that capacity she redesigned and strengthened all educational programs, initiated and implemented a five-year strategic clinical plan and improved the financial literacy for the department  with alignment of business, clinical, educational and research goals.

Dr. Pingleton also was the Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for 10  years.  She also served as the Senior Medical Director for the University of Kansas Hospital.

Dr. Pingleton received her medical degree from the University of Kansas, where she also completed her internal medicine residency and pulmonary fellowship.  She established the Pulmonary Division at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in conjunction with a National Institutes of Health Pulmonary Academic Award.  She returned to the University of Kansas in 1982 and developed the Critical Care Program and served as Division Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Pingleton has extensive experience in local, regional, national and international service organizations.  Among her various national professional activities, she has served as the President of the American College of Chest Physicians, Chair of the ACCP Board of Regents, and as a member of the FDA Pulmonary Advisory Committee and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
