bio page for Paul TerranovaPaul F. Terranova, Ph.D., is vice chancellor for research and president of the Research Institute at KU Medical Center. The Research Institute serves as the pre- and post-award mechanism for grants and contracts held by the medical center. The portfolio includes $100 million annually in grants/contracts of which approximately 60 percent is from NIH. Dr. Terranova also serves as senior associate dean for research and graduate education in the School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 1975 and then moved to the University of Kansas Medical Center for postdoctoral studies related to ovarian function in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Physiology at KUMC in 1977 and rose through the ranks to professor in 1985. He has served as founding director of the Center for Reproductive Sciences from 1995–2007. He provides service to several journals by serving on their editorial boards. He also has served on several NIH and NSF review panels as well as for the National Academy. His research was supported continuously by NIH for 25 years and numerous other private and national agencies. He has more than 150 peer reviewed publications and book chapters. His research focused on regulation of ovarian function including ovarian cancer where he developed a mouse model for events related to ovarian cancer.
