Dr. Paul Callaway was appointed as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita in May 2013. He is responsible for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of the graduate medical education programs. Dr. Callaway also serves as the Designated Institutional Official for KU-Wichita.
A native of Oklahoma, Dr. Callaway is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine residency training in Wichita at the St. Joseph Family Practice Residency Program. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Callaway served as the Program Director for the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita Family Medicine Residency Program at Wesley. He has been active nationally in Family Medicine education having served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD). He also served as a liaison member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on Education. Currently, Dr. Callaway is member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) Review Committee for Family Medicine.
Dr. Callaway has received numerous teaching awards including the Thor Jager, MD Award in 2000, the Jayhawker, MD Award in 2005, both presented by the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. In 2009, he received the Nikitas J. Zervanos Outstanding Program Director Award, presented by the AAFP & AFMRD. Dr. Callaway's areas of clinical interest include Type 2 Diabetes education, management of cervical dysplasia and procedural training. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
