Dr. Jon P. Schrage is a Professor of Medicine and the Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine for the KU School of Medicine-Wichita. Dr. Schrage's department is responsible for:
Dr. Schrage also serves as interim associate dean, Veterans Affairs, and is president of the Medical Practice Association.
Dr. Schrage was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and earned a BA in psychology the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He completed his medical school training at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at the University of Southern Illinois Affiliated Hospitals and his fellowship training in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Missouri Medical Center. Dr. Schrage also earned an MPA at the University of Missouri School Of Public Administration. He has also been a graduate student at the University of Texas, Austin, studying accountancy.
Dr. Schrage served as managing partner of a multispecialty group in Austin, Texas, in the early 1980s and as deputy director and medical director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health in the late 1980s.
He began his academic career at Southern Illinois University in 1989 and functioned in many roles, including division chief of endocrinology and metabolism, internal medicine clerkship director, associate residency director and fellowship director. In 1994, he became the director of internal medicine education at the University of Nevada and served as both internal medicine clerkship director and residency program director. In 1996 he became the Manville Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, and in 2002 he became the associate dean for both the GME and undergraduate medical education programs at the University of Nevada. Dr. Schrage also served as president of the faculty practice plan and as research director at the VAMC (Reno).
Dr. Schrage is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians Executives. He is also editor of the Kansas Journal of Medicine.
