In July 2011, Dr. Heidi Chumley was appointed associate vice chancellor for educational resources and interprofessional education. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the library and teaching and learning technologies, strengthening the campus-wide diversity initiatives and developing a center for interprofessional education.
Prior to taking on her role in the dean's office, Dr. Chumley held the position of clerkship director and associate chair for Undergraduate Medical Education in the Department of Family Medicine. She maintains a clinical practice and is heavily involved in clinical teaching and educational research.
Dr. Chumley is involved in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, currently as an STFM board member, president of the STFM Foundation and Chair of the CCI task force, which is charged with transforming the national family medicine clerkship curriculum into a website where family medicine clerkship directors share curricular content and stay abreast of teaching and assessment methods. She serves on the editorial board for the American Academy of Family Physicians Monographs. She is one of the editors of the Color Atlas of Family Medicine.
Dr. Chumley received her M.D. degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where she also completed her residency in family practice and a fellowship in academic leadership.
Dr. Chumley has received the Society of Teacher's of Family Medicine President's Award for her work with the Clerkship Curriculum Task Force; the Nason Family Award for Excellence in Family Medicine Education, and has been named one of Kansas City's Top Docs.
