Dr. Garold Minns was appointed Director of Housestaff Programs (now referred to as Program Director) at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita in 1982 and then to Program Director in 1991. He was also appointed Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in 1994. He is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.
A Kansas native, Dr. Minns completed his undergraduate studies at McPherson College and medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. His residency and fellowship training also were completed at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. Dr. Minns also served as Chairman in the Department of Internal Medicine from 1994 to 2003.
Dr. Minns was elected Governor of the Kansas Chapter of the American College of Physicians in April 2008 and will end his term in April 2012. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the Admissions Committee, Academic Committee, Education Council, and numerous other committees. Dr. Minns is active in medical student and residency education. He has received a number of awards during his career at KU, including the 2010 Rainbow Award, W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence Award, and Thor Jager Award. He also received the Laureate Award from the Kansas Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
