Dr. Brad Poss was appointed as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita in July 2011. He is responsible for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of the graduate medical education training programs. He is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and maintains a clinical practice in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
A Kansas native, Dr. Poss completed his undergraduate and medical school studies at the University of Kansas, a pediatric residency at Naval Hospital Oakland, and a pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Utah. In addition, he completed a Master's in Medical Management Degree at the University of Southern California. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2007 after serving a variety of leadership positions including Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and Director of Medical Education at Naval Medical Center San Diego. In addition, he served as an Amphibious Task Force Surgeon in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2001-2002 and as the US THIRD Fleet Surgeon from 2005-2007. He was at the University of Utah as a Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children's Medical Center prior to returning to Kansas.
Dr. Poss is on the American Academy of Pediatrics PREP editorial board, a member of the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties, and recipient of numerous awards including the Early Career Achievement Award from the University of Kansas Medical School Alumni Association. His areas of clinical and research interest include graduate medical education, pediatric workforce issues, disaster management, and pandemic influenza planning.
