Student Recognition Ceremony
Graduation Weekend 2019
Congratulations to student award winners recognized at departmental graduation events held on Friday, May 17.
The KU School of Health Professions Student Recognition Ceremony was held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
At the 2019 Student Recognition Ceremony, Steve Jernigan, Ph.D., PT, received the 2019 Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award. The award recognizes excellence in teaching as well as outstanding contributions by the recipient in his or her profession. Abdulfattah Alqahtani won the James P. Cooney Leadership Award. It honors one student each year for leadership and impact on their program, profession, community, and the school. View photos from the event.
For the first time, the School of Health Professions hosted a light breakfast reception for students and faculty before the KU Commencement on Sunday, May 19. Faculty accompanied students from the Kansas Union ballroom to the World War II Memorial Campanile as they prepared for the traditional "walk down the Hill."

Instructions for Graduating Students
As a recognition ceremony, and not a graduation event, family and friends are close enough at this event to actually see students, and this is an opportunity for individual acknowledgement of student accomplishments. There is no limit to the number of guests, and tickets are not required.
The University of Kansas Commencement was Sunday, May 19 in Lawrence, Kansas. Students are encouraged to participate in both ceremonies.
Prior to the event, please read the ceremony guide and instructions for students. Bookmark the page and/or print it for later reference, if necessary. Please note there is NO DRESS REHEARSAL. These instructions serve as the rehearsal and contain details you should know ahead of time and share with your families and friends.
