Participate in a REACH Lab study

The overall goal of the REACH laboratory is to understand the cardiovascular and pulmonary adaptations to chronic disease (heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and cancer). Using non-invasive methods to study the heart, lungs, brain and vascular system, the REACH lab aims to understand the cellular processes modulating vascular function in individuals with disease, and to explore the possibility that exercise interventions can improve vascular health.

Using data acquired during its projects, the REACH lab hopes to develop effective exercise interventions that maximize cardiovascular health in people with and without disease.

Join the FitHAWKS Database!

The purpose of the FitHAWKS database is to examine the overall health of those living in the Kansas City metro and surrounding areas in Kansas and Missouri.

How do I qualify to join the FitHAWKS database?
First, participate in a fee-for-service maximal effort exercise test in the REACH laboratory at KU Medical Center. Then, simply be willing to have your fitness values data entered into the database. No personal, identifiable information will be included.

Assessing Cerebral Brain Blood Flow and Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound (ACERT) Database

Join the ACERT database to help us better understand brain blood flow at rest and during exercise across the lifespan.

How do I qualify to join the ACERT database?

  • You are a healthy individual between the ages of 20-85
  • You are willing to travel to KU Medical Center for one visit to the REACH Laboratory
  • You are willing to exercise at three exercise intensities
