Sandra Billinger's research and her Wogelmuth Faculty Scholar award were highlighted in KU's annual giving report.
REACH
The REACH lab utilizes advanced equipment including the Biodex dynamometer.
The Research in Exercise and Cardiovascular Health (REACH) laboratory is comprised of dedicated students, researchers, and volunteers from the community who work together to answer important questions about chronic disease and disability.
The REACH lab is focused on research that integrates three areas of study: cardiovascular physiology, brain aging, and stroke recovery.
Exercise interventions are used to maximize heart and brain health in people with and without disease. Using non-invasive methods, the lab team studies the heart, lungs, brain, and vascular system.
REACH lab offers various fitness assessments to the community on a fee-for-service basis. These include cardiac risk assessment, body composition, and VO2 max testing.
Cardiac risk assessment (screening including blood pressure).
Resting energy expenditure.
Wingate anaerobic test.
Waist/hip circumference measurement.
Submaximal exercise test with or without gas analysis.
To contact the REACH lab or schedule an appointment, please call 913-945-6630 (711 TTY) or email the lab.
Maximal exercise test (VO2 max) with gas analysis.
Functional tests (Six-minute walk test, Timed up and go) with/without gas analysis.
Billinger lended her expertise on a podcast titled "Regular Walking Breaks Prevent the Decline in Cerebral Blood Flow Associated with Prolonged Sitting." Listen
Billinger was featured on a podcast discussing her paper published in Journal of Applied Physiology titled "Dynamics of Middle Cerebral Artery Blood Flow Velocity During Moderate Intensity Exercise." Listen
