Mildred Oligbo, PT, DPT

A clinical assistant professor, Mildred Oligbo, PT, DPT, teaches didactic courses in the physical therapy doctoral degree program including pediatric physical therapy introducing fundamental concepts in examination, evaluation, and treatment of pediatric clients. She also is an instructor for the documentation and health informatics course and assists with several others in the curriculum. In addition, she serves as coordinator for the integrated clinical experiences associated with the second year of the program.

Prior to her transition to a faculty position, Oligbo was the director of rehabilitation at an area hospital and worked as a physical therapist in outpatient, multidisciplinary pain management, and school-based settings. Her clinical background includes pediatrics, chronic pain management, acute care, and orthopedics.

Oligbo also serves as the physical therapy discipline supervisor for the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. This training provides graduate and post-graduate level professionals from a variety of disciplines the necessary preparation for becoming future leaders in the field of developmental disabilities.


Academic Background

Oligbo began her academic career at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria where she earned a bachelor's degree. In 2006, she received her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Kansas. She is currently working on a doctorate degree in therapeutic science at the University of Kansas Medical Center.


Research Focus

Oligbo's research interests are focused on exploring the International Classification of Disability and Health as a framework to investigate ‘participation' of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She is also interested in educational research, specifically active learning strategies, and integration of clinical and didactic courses in the physical therapy program curriculum

In collaboration with other faculty in the department, Oligbo helped establish the Leveraging Education And Research iN Physical Therapy laboratory. Its research goal is to promote excellence and collaboration to optimize physical therapy education.
