Information for Students
Clinical education is considered an integral part of the KU physical therapy program. In addition to providing opportunities to practice and apply the concepts and skills learned in the classroom to real-world patient care settings, clinical education allows students to expand their didactic knowledge, identify professional role models, and develop critical communication and interpersonal skills, work habits, and clinical competencies.

In the final year of the physical therapy program, students are engaged in clinical settings for either three consecutive 12-week or four consecutive 9-week full-time experiences. Opportunities exist in more than 250 clinical sites across the U.S. Student input is considered during the matching process within limitations of availability and other factors such as site application. Guidance is available in preparation for filling out clinical placement request forms.

Participation in a wide variety of experiences fosters the development of a well-rounded, versatile physical therapist and allows the student to assess their future career interests, goals, and needs.

Review the clinical education program policies and procedures and view specific clinical education courses. Some international clinical education opportunities are available. It is suggested students speak with the director of clinical education to explore and arrange international opportunities.
