Jane Hughes, OTD, OTR/L, has more than 20 years of pediatric practice experience serving children and families through infant and toddler services and public schools in their natural environments. A clinical assistant professor, Hughes serves as the curriculum program manager for the master's program in occupational therapy. She teaches theory, problem-based learning, case-based clinical reasoning, family and community services systems, and practicum classes. Hughes serves nationally on the roster of accreditors for the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
Hughes (formerly Cox) earned her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy at the University of Kansas and continued her study there to earn a master's degree in post-professional pediatric occupational therapy. She completed her doctorate in occupational therapy at the KU Medical Center.
Specifically, Hughes has research interests in sensory processing, intervention in the natural environment, and strength-based intervention.

The major goal of this study is to test a sensory based intervention that is built on solid interdisciplinary evidence about use of everyday routines, and imbeds sensory processing knowledge within the daily life to create an integrated intervention.

Assessment of Children in Context: Mealtime Observations
