How to Apply

Before starting the online application

It will be helpful to have the following information ready before starting the online application. Applications are not reviewed until all of the requested information is received.

  1. OT License or Registration: Please enclose a photocopy of your current state license to practice occupational therapy or official documentation that you are registered with the NBCOT as an occupational therapist.

  2. Statement of Career Goals: Your statement should be approximately 400 words.  Prepare a statement of your career goals that outlines: 1. Why you have chosen to pursue an OTD degree at this point in your career. 2. What you hope to learn and achieve during your study toward this degree.  3. How you plan to use this degree and what you hope to accomplish after you graduate.

  3. Curriculum Vitae or Résumé: Highlight professional leadership contributions as well as community based volunteer leadership activities.

  4. English Language Proficiency: All applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency through either the TOEFL or IELTS testing systems.  The test must have been taken within two (2) years of the first semester of enrollment.  Results must be provided directly to KU by the testing service using ETS school code 6895.  Photocopies of scores will not be accepted.

  5. References: Applicants will enter the names and contact information (including email addresses) of three (3) individuals into the online application. The system will then prompt each person to submit the reference online.

    One reference must be provided from a fieldwork supervisor. The other references should be a faculty member, advisor, employer or other person familiar with the applicant's work and character. The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc. Make sure each reference is willing to submit this electronically, and inform him or her that they will be receiving an email from “KU Medical Center <help@applyweb.com>” requesting them to submit a reference for you online.

  6. Transcripts: Arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university that you have attended sent directly to KU Medical Center at the following address:

Technical Standards
If you are admitted to our program and you intend to accept the admission offer and enroll in our program, you will be required to complete a separate form so that proper accommodations may be made for you as necessary. The admission committee will consult with applicants who indicate that they cannot meet the technical standards with or without reasonable accommodation. The faculty responsible for the academic program and the members of the admissions committee may seek advice in each individual situation from the EO/Disability Specialist.

Using the link above, please submit your completed application and pay the application fee. The application fee is paid when you click SUMBIT from the online application. Applicants can pay by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or by electronic check. U.S. banks only. Application fees are non-refundable. Electronic checks will be held for approximately six business days while the check clears.
