Paul Hertel, CRNA, DNP, is a clinical assistant professor for the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. He has over ten years of experience working in both Kansas and Missouri as a CRNA. Initially, Dr. Hertel worked for Anesthesia Associates of Kansas City at Menorah Medical Center and later held a position at North Kansas City Hospital for Northland Anesthesiology, Inc. In December of 2006, he became a clinical instructor for KU's nurse anesthesia program at the KU Medical Center.
Dr. Hertel earned a BA in Psychology in 1991 followed by a BSN in 1993, both from the University of Colorado. He was awarded a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia from the University of Kansas in 1999. He recently received his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the KU School of Nursing.
Clinical and Academic Focus
Dr. Hertel serves as co-instructor in the nurse anesthesia curriculum for courses in regional anesthesia, pain management and two senior-level classes in nurse anesthesia theory. He divides his time clinically between teaching cardiothoracic anesthesia at The University of Kansas Hospital Center for Advanced Heart Care and instructing new students during their first three months of clinical training. Dr. Hertel also has a strong interest in political development for nurse anesthesia students.
