58 new DPT students receive class pins during annual Jessie Ball Lecture
Fifty-eight first-year doctor of physical therapy students took part in the annual DPT Pinning Ceremony Thursday night in Battenfeld Auditorium, which takes place in conjunction with the Jessie Ball Lecture. Traditionally the DPT pinning takes place after the students have completed their first semester of classes at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Michael J. Mueller, PT, Ph.D., FAPTA, division director of research in physical therapy at Washington University in St. Louis, delivered the lecture, which is named after Ball, a beloved faculty member at KU Medical Center for 28 years.
Ball joined the University of Kansas Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in 1960 as an assistant professor and served as interim department chair from 1979 to 1981. During her tenure at KU, Ball received the Chancellor's Teaching Award and the Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award. In 1994, she was honored as the Distinguished Alumna by the KU School of Allied Health.
A beloved and respected faculty member, Ball retired in 1988. She is remembered fondly by a legion of physical therapists who were her students.
