Professional and Academic Background
Norbert Belz, MHSA, RHIA, is chair of the KU Department of Health Information Management. He was previously appointed program director in July 2012, and also maintains teaching responsibilities as clinical assistant professor in the department. Belz has instructed such courses as legal aspects of healthcare, health care delivery systems, reimbursements and topics in health information management. Since 2006 he has also been working with the Center for Child Health and Development at KU Medical Center in various interdisciplinary teaching and training capacities.
Belz received his bachelor's degree in health information management from St. Louis University, and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Kansas. He is also currently pursuing a doctorate in health policy and management at KU, and his research interest is health technology applications for chronic disease management.
For more than six years prior to his appointment as a faculty member Belz worked in the Center for Telemedicine and Teleheatlh at KU Medical Center. For most of that time he served as project manager/director for numerous federal, state and foundation grants.
