HIM legal experts advise and educate clients on proper medical record documentation as well as evaluating risk in areas of privacy, security, contracts, regulatory compliance and reimbursement for health care services. These professionals must be up to date on the constantly changing statutes, regulations and policies at the state and federal level to ensure their clients create a solid legal foundation.
People who enjoy asking questions such as “why” and “what” and appreciate the fine distinctions in rules and policies may find they are a good fit on the legal side of HIM. The jobs vary greatly, but most are detail-oriented and require a person who thinks critically and analytically.
