Marilee Means, PhD, SCT(ASCP) has been the educational coordinator and/or program director of the Cytotechnology Program at the University of Kansas Medical Center since 1983. She has also worked as one of the staff in the cytotology laboratory in the KU Hospital since graduating from the program in 1977. Her PhD from the University of Kansas was obtained in the field of Curriculum and Instruction for Allied Health Professionals (1994).

Dr. Means has served in a number of local, regional, and national cytotechnology organizations such as the American Society for Cytotechnology (ASCT), the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC). She has given presentations for all of these organizations, held various offices, and served on a number of committees for them, including serving as the ASCP Tech Sample Section Editor for Cytotechnology, serving as chair of the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee of the ASC, and serving as a member of the Executive Board of the ASC.

Her research interests are in the field of gynecologic cytology, clinical education of cytotechnologists, and neuroendocrine tumors.
