Venus Ward, PhD, MLS(ASCP)cm, obtained her undergraduate degrees in biology and medical technology at Wichita State University, a master's degree at State University of New York in Buffalo, N.Y., and her doctorate from the University of Kansas. Prior to coming to the University of Kansas Medical Center, she worked for ten years as a medical technologist at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Manzini, Swaziland. Ward was also an instructor for the College of Nursing at that institution. During that time she served as director the clinical laboratory for several years and implemented a training program for clinical laboratory professionals.
Ward is an active member in several professional organizations and has held leadership positions at both the state, regional, and national level. She has served on several accreditation site visit teams for clinical laboratory science education programs.
An assistant professor, Ward currently teaches courses in clinical hematology theory, management principles in health care, and clinical chemistry theory.
