Dr. Elsinghorst’s research is centered on bacterial pathogenesis. By working to better understand the ways in which bacterial pathogens interact with their hosts to cause disease, he is contributing to the development of novel approaches in the prevention of disease.

Eric Elsinghorst, PhD, MPH, MB(ASCP)cm, serves multiple roles for the KU Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. At the undergraduate level, he serves as program director for the molecular biotechnology concentration. He also is the program director for the Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology degree program. As research associate professor, Dr. Elsinghorst delivers courses in advanced molecular techniques, biotechnology methodologies, journal club, molecular diagnostics, and molecular immunology, as well as graduate instruction in molecular biotechnology.

Academic Background
In 1981, Elsinghorst received a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. He then obtained a Doctorate in microbiology at Cornell University. Then, in 2008, he earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Research Background
In addition to his advisement position as Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Elsinghorst, Research Associate Professor in the University of Kansas Clinical Laboratory Sciences department, also manages the admission, advising, student progression and degree requirements for the Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology program. He also teaches 15 undergraduate and graduate courses at the KU Medical Center and monitors the academic practicum for CLS undergraduates.
Elsinghorst also acts as an external referee for the following organizations: the United States Civilian Research and Development Foundation, the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the Military Infectious Diseases Research Program, The USDA National Research Initiative, the World Health Organization, the U.S. - Israel Binational Science Foundation and the British Columbia Health Research Foundation.
