As courses are constantly being evaluated and approved for inclusion in the KU Core Curriculum, please check for the most up to date course listings which meet each goal. KU Core goals 1.1, 5, and 6 will be fulfilled through courses taken during the last two years of the clinical laboratory science program at KU Medical Center.

Mathematics (6 hours)

  • Algebra (MATH 101, 3 hrs.) [G 1.2]

Liberal Arts and Sciences Courses (6 hours)

  • Humanities: 1 course, 3 hrs. [G 3H]

  • Social sciences: 1 course, 3 hrs. [G 3S]


Clinical Laboratory Sciences (1 hour recommended)

  • Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS 210, 1 hr.)

The following courses are included during the 1st year (junior year) of the professional program. Students with previous credit for these courses or equivalent will not need to enroll in them if they earned a C or better in the course:

  • Immunology (BIOL 503/CLS 538, 3 hrs.)

  • Biochemistry (BIOL 600/CLS 600 or equivalent, 3 hrs.)

KU Core Requirements

All incoming KU freshmen are required to fulfill the KU Core requirements. The purpose of the KU Core is to establish a University-wide general curriculum for all baccalaureate degrees that meets six primary educational goals. The curriculum provided here has been updated to meet the KU Core requirements for fall 2015.
