Kansas Locum Tenens provides coverage in the specialities of family medicine, general internal medicine and pediatrics.
Residents in family medicine, general internal medicine and pediatrics may participate in Kansas Locum Tenens provided they have the following:
• Permanent Kansas medical license
• DEA certificate
• Malpractice insurance
• Approval by Program Director, Department Chair, Assistant/Associate Dean for GME, and Executive Vice Chancellor
Yes. At the discretion of the Program Director, residents must use vacation time when participating in locums and can participate in no more than two weeks of locum tenens in a 12-month period.
Most coverages occur over the weekend ranging from 48-60 hours on an on-call basis in a rural emergency room setting. Monday-Friday clinic coverage is also requested.
Yes. Residents are required to report all locum tenens and moonlighting activities in duty hour reports.

Once a resident has accepted a coverage, additional paperwork for approval will be applicable.
Rural Health communicates with communities in need of coverage. Then we send out an email to all resident physician signed up with the Kansas Locum Tenens program. The coverages are on a first come, first serve basis. Once a resident physician accepts a coverage, Rural Health will assist with credentialing and obtaining signatures needed on approval paperwork.

Flat fee rates are as follows:
• $1000/24 hours weekday
• $1200/24 hours weekend
• $200 per day holiday pay
• New service charge ($200) to aid in reimbursing resident physicians for purchasing malpractice insurance
• $40/hour drive time
• Mileage at the State rate
• Off-site lodging provided
Residents can earn between $3000 and $4000 for a weekend coverage!
