Distinguished Service Award
to Bill Osborne

Les Redpath

Most of us know Bill as the person who puts together the wonderful booth on past society meetings that is displayed in updated form at our meetings each year, as well as our society photographer. However, Bill has done a lot more for the society than that.

Bill completed all of his higher education at the University of Illinois earning a Ph.D. in 1955 under the mentorship of Henry Quastler.

He has spent his academic career, apart from a sabbatical now and again, at the Radiation Research Laboratory at the University of Iowa, which of course was the also the home of the first editor of Radiation Research, Titus Evans.

He joined the Radiation Research Society in 1956.

He has chaired many committees since that time and continues to Chair the Emeritus Committee and the History Committee.

He is also a member of our Development Committee and our Ad Hoc Committee on arrangements for the 50th anniversary of the society in 2002, next year.

I can think of no finer servant of our society and it is my great pleasure to present Bill with our Distinguished Service Award. Now who’s going to take the photographs?!
