Report from the History Committee

J.W. Osborne, Chair

The History Committee of the Radiation Research Society (RRS) met in San Juan during the Society’s 48th annual meeting and formulated some ideas for ways to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Society’s existence at the April, 2002 meeting in Reno.

At the present time, the listing below of what will be displayed in the History booth area is still tentative.

  1. Pictorial highlights of the San Juan meeting.
  2. Highlights of selected meetings through a continuously running slide presentation, a video presentation, or a series of still photos.
  3. Presentation of a collection of comments from past presidents and recipients of various RRS and ICRR awards.
  4. A special section of rare photos depicting the early years of the Society.
  5. A display of program booklets from meetings 1-48.
  6. A special pictorial section on past meetings (I-XI) of the International Congress of Radiation Research. These are for the viewing pleasure of members and for enhancing their interest in attending ICRR-XII in Brisbane in 2003.
  7. A collection of appropriate pictures on which to make a judgment of the most beautiful site we have had for national meetings. Ignore other aspects of the meeting. Likewise, a set for International Congresses I-XI.
  8. A showing of the videotape of the "Memories Roundtable" chaired by Bill Dewey and held in Nashville in 1994. Martin Brown and Mary Kovacs were co-producers of the tape.
  9. An alphabetical list of charter members of RRS and photos if available. Charter members are invited to send photos to me of themselves taken in the period around 1952.
  10. Any special collection by individuals or RRS committees will be considered for display. Such collections could be donated or loaned to RRS for the occasion.

Please send any ideas or comments to me by any medium you prefer. My RRS Directory information is correct. A more direct e-mail than that currently listed is: james-osborne@uiowa.edu
