Michael Fry Research Award Les Redpath |
| The Michael Fry Research Award is
the award given to a radiation research scientist of 40 years and under who has made
significant and distinguished contributions to his/her research area. This years
winner is Kevin Prise from the Gray Laboratory in Northwood, Middlesex, UK. Kevin obtained
his B.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He
then joined the Cell and Molecular Biophysics Group at the Gray Laboratory where is a
Research Scientist. He is also a Visting Fellow in the Department of Physics at Queen Mary
and Westfield College at the University of London. Kevins research interests have
been many, but perhaps the research areas for which he is best known are those which
include aspects of DNA damage induction, its chemical modification, and resulting cellular
effects, and more recently his efforts in the development of x-ray and particle microbeam
technology and its application to studies of genomic instability and bystander effects,
topics of great current interest and which are well represented at this meeting. It is my
pleasure to present Kevin with the Fry Award and I look forward to his Award lecture
tomorrow morning.
