Notes from the Editor-in-Chief of Radiation Research

Sara Rockwell

This newsletter contains the annual report for Radiation Research for the year 2000,which was presented to Council and was available at the business meeting in San Juan. As you will see from this report, your Journal continues to flourish and to maintain a very high level of visibility. The impact factor of the Journal places it in the top 10% of the 5500 Journals indexed by ISI and among the top 10 "Radiology" journals listed by ISI. The Journal has also become increasingly international, receiving 121 papers from the USA and 182 papers from 36 other countries in 2000.

Because my term as Editor began on January 1, 2001, I can take no credit for any of this success. Instead it reflects the leadership of the past Editors, most recently John Ward and Michael Fry, and the efforts of the Associate Editors and of Martha Edington and Judy Fye. These people have successfully guided Radiation Research through a period in which many other journals have experienced difficulties.

The Annual report mentions that one member of the Editorial Board, Tony Leadon, finished his term on July 1, 2001. In addition, Theodore S. Lawrence left the Editorial Board in the fall of 2000 because of other commitments and John Moulder’s role changed to that of Senior Editor. Bruce Kimler, Simon Powell, and Vijayalami joined the Editorial Board January 1, and Amy Kronenberg joined the Board on July 1. In addition, Jay Lubin and Richard Maughan, have recently agreed to join the Editorial Board. (Some badly overworked editors are breathing sighs of relief at the arrival of these reinforcements.)

I’d like to thank the members of the Society for the help and support that you have given me as I started into the job of Editor. I hope that you will continue to support your Journal, by sending your best and most exciting papers to Radiation Research. The Journal will maintain its position of excellence and its breadth of subject matter only by publishing important, exciting papers in all of the areas in which the members of the Radiation Research Society perform research. We need your help to do this.
