than 700 have registered for the annual RRS/NAHS meeting to be held at the San Juan Caribe
Hilton Hotel, April 21-25, 2001. Youre in store for a stimulating scientific program
that will cover a broad range of exciting topics plus a great location for fun and
relaxation. As a first for RRS, the entire meeting program and abstracts are available on
the RRS website (www.radres.org). There
will be links from the meeting schedule to the abstracts and vice versa as well as
hierarchical views of the schedule. You will be able to organize the information based on
these hierarchical views and searches. There will also be an itinerary builder that will
allow you to create a customized schedule for the meeting. In addition to 23 refresher courses, 28 symposia, 15 workshops, and 4 plenary lectures, you will have ample time (and space) to present your research through numerous poster sessions (posters will be displayed for the entire duration of the meeting this year). A special social event is scheduled for Sunday night. The Puerto Rican Tourism Office will sponsor a "Tropical Night Mixer," featuring native music and dance of Puerto Rico and a taste of Puerto Rican delicacies. We are delighted to host Dr. Ellen Baker, NASA Shuttle Astronaut, who will be a featured speaker in the NASA Space Radiobiology Symposium. She will also speak during the RRS Womens luncheon on Monday. Our plenary lectures this year will center about the theme of molecular targets featuring Joe Gray, UCSF, (Genome Evolution in Solid Tumors: Clinical Correlations and Therapeutic Targets); Dan Kenan, Duke University, (Designer Ligands for Molecular Targets) and Ed Liu, NCI, (Therapeutics in the Genomic Era). Les Redpath, RRS President, will host the Presidential Symposium on "Genes, Radiation, and Cancer." Our young investigators will enjoy not only platform presentations of their research, but a special social mixer and a luncheon. Many of the special functions and activities of the meeting have been underwritten by our Institutional and Corporate members and by gracious contributions made by a number of companies and organizations. The names of these contributors will be placed on signs throughout the meeting facility. Also, we will have several corporate exhibitors at the meeting; please take a few minutes to stop by and visit with them. We are grateful for their help and support. A free afternoon (Tuesday) will give you the opportunity to enjoy the beach or visit old town San Juan that features numerous restaurants, nightclubs, shops, and historical sites. You might want to check out the Puerto Rico website (www.prtourism.com) to plan activities before or after the meeting. What a great way to celebrate Spring, the annual RRS/NAHS meeting in San Juan! Im looking forward to seeing you there. |
