Calendar of Coming Events

August 3-4, 2001:  ASTRO Course for Residents, Radiation Oncologists, and Radiobiologists in CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR RADIOBIOLOGY; San Diego, CA. The course aims to inform of new developments in adiobiology, explain how these integrate within classic radiobiological concepts, and provide a framework within which to consider new biology-based strategies for improving the radiotherapeutic benefit. The program will have a broad scientific base that will assist residents in preparation for the Biology Section of the written examination of the American Board of Radiology. It will complement (not replace) available textbooks; provide an overview of the "new" radiobiology that will be useful for those who teach the subject; help provide an integrated working framework for research. Topics will include radiation-induced DNA and chromosome damage and repair; cell death and survival pathways; cell cycle effects; gene induction; angiogenesis and the tumor microenvironment; intrinsic radioresponsiveness and the influence of genetic programs and mutations; normal and tumor tissue responses; mutagenesis and carcinogenesis biology-based strategies for improving radiotherapeutic benefit.
