RRS Award Winners

Howard D. Thames, Recipient of the Failla Memorial Award
The winner of the Failla Memorial Award for 2001 is Howard D. Thames, Department of Biomathematics, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The Failla Award was established in 1962-1963 to honor the late Gioacchino Failla, one of the founding fathers of the Society and its second president, and is given to an outstanding member of the radiation research community in recognition of significant contributions to radiation research. Dr. Thames will give his Failla Lecture, "Questions Related to Cells, Molecules, and Radiotherapy", at the RRS Annual Meeting on Monday, April 23.

Kevin M. Prise of the Gray Laboratory Cancer Research Trust is this year's winner of the Michael Fry Research Award. He will speak on Wednesday, April 25. The award was established in 1969 as the RRS Research Award to recognize investigators aged 41 or under in the field of radiation research.

 


Lynda Fletcher, Recipient of the Marie Curie Travel Award
The winner of the Marie Curie Travel Award for 2001 is Lynda Fletcher of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. This award was established to honor an outstanding student in the area of radiation biology, chemistry, physics or medicine; the recipient is chosen from the top five ranked recipients of the student travel awards.

The recipients of the Michael Fry Research Award and the Marie Curie Award will give their presentations at the RRS Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 25.
J.W. (Bill) Osborne, Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award


J. W. (Bill) Osborne, Radiation Research Laboratory, University of Iowa, is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to an RRS member or nonmember to recognize continued service beyond the call of duty to further the goals and objectives of the Society.
